Bobby Orr, OC is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest hockey players of all time.

While growing up in Parry Sound I experienced a small-town Northern Ontario environment. My upbringing brought with it some tremendous advantages. For example, I was the beneficiary of a wonderful group of community-minded volunteers, the kind of people who put others ahead of themselves. There was never a shortage of men and women willing to mentor the children of our community whether during baseball in the summer or hockey in the winter.

My first love was hockey. Along with my buddies we would often head out to the Bay once the ice had formed and play shinny until the sky went dark. I learned the skills of handling a puck during those sessions. But you could also find us playing road hockey any time of the year on local streets — we didn’t need ice to keep our hockey dreams alive.

Parry Sound will always be home.
