Ken Danby captures the negotiated tension in our relationship with the natural world. The suburban scene depicts the body held aloft, languid, one hand almost touching the perfectly manicured lawn, receding to the edge of darkness and the wildness beyond.
Ken Danby, CM, OOnt was one of Canada’s foremost realist painters. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and spent most of his working life near Guelph, Ontario. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, he received Silver and Golden Jubilee Medals. He died in Algonquin Park in 2007.
